Revealed: 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

We love the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG not only for its classic good looks, but for its incredible performance in the corners and in a straight line. Well, Mercedes-Benz has given us even more to like with the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series. Black Series cars come with a range of hardware upgrades that are designed to provide unequaled performance, which makes this sleek ride one of the fastest members of the fleet-footed lineup.

The engineers have managed to squeeze even more power from the SLS AMG’s 6.2-liter V8, bringing the total up to 622 horsepower in the Black Series – that’s an increase of 39. Meanwhile, efforts to reduce weight like a titanium exhaust system, carbon-fiber body parts and even a lightweight battery have led to a curb weight that’s some 154 pounds lighter than the standard version. The results? It only takes 3.5 seconds for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series to sprint to 60 mph from a stop, and the only thing keeping this radical car from breaking 200 mph is an electronic speed limiter.

That high-performance bite backs up a visual bark that comes courtesy of a large front splitter, extended side skirts and a rear spoiler that all draw their design from the racing version of the car. It’s an incredible addition to the Black Series lineup, which has become world-famous for audaciously fast vehicles.
