How Does Magic Body Control Work?

If you have seen the latest Mercedes-Benz commercial about Magic Body Control, you probably remember the chickens and their ability to keep their heads steady. However, in order to understand the full extent of this technology and how it benefits drivers, we are providing a more detailed explanation of how it works.

At its core, Magic Body Control is a clever combination of two other technologies: ACTIVE BODY CONTROL® (ABC) and ROAD SURFACE SCAN, a function of the forward-facing stereo camera. While the vehicle is in motion, the camera continuously scans the surface of the road just ahead, sending the information to the ABC system.

ABC then presets the suspension to match any bumps or holes coming up. Each separate strut adjusts to apply the right amount of force so that the passengers are isolated from the disturbing bounces and jolts that usually come from driving on an uneven surface.

The adjustments take just a fraction of a second to be applied, for a seamless and comfortable experience. Magic Body Control also reduces body movements during cornering, braking and acceleration. In winter conditions, it can even raise ground clearance up to 40 mm for added safety. The result is a smooth ride that seems to almost float over any road imperfections.

Currently, Magic Body Control is only available in the premium Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Come to our Massachusetts Mercedes-Benz dealership to test-drive one of the new models equipped with this groundbreaking technology and experience one of the best innovations from Mercedes-Benz today.

More Information Released on the Upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class

Only a few weeks from its big reveal at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September, the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class has already become the talk of the automotive world. Though the latest Mercedes-Benz model won’t be available for at least another year, there are high expectations about the automaker’s contribution to the luxury compact crossover segment. Mercedes-Benz has just released some more details and specs, outlining a game changer vehicle in its class.

Those expecting to meet a coy debutante are in for a shock, as the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is just as capable of waltzing around in white-tie events as it is of running into the woods, climbing up a tree and getting its dress dirty. Taking advantage of Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive, dedicated off-roading transmission mode and Downhill Speed Regulation, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class will be able to tackle off-road conditions nimbly and effortlessly. Also, while other competitors would demand frequent refueling stops, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is expected to return up to 37 mpg thanks to its lightweight frame and optimized engine output.

Keeping in tune with the youthful spirit of this new model, the latest technology features will be integrated in the Mercedes-Benz mbrace2™ infotainment system, including smartphone connectivity, concierge services and content streaming. The most advanced safety and accident prevention technology from Mercedes-Benz, such as DISTRONIC PLUS® and Collision Prevention Assist, will also be equipped in this luxury crossover.

There is no doubt that the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is ready to be introduced to society, and we’ll be delighted to see it make an entrance into our Massachusetts Mercedes-Benz dealership in 2014. In the meantime, we’ll keep you posted with all the latest information on this exciting new model.

Mercedes-Benz Reveals All-New GLA-Class Compact SUV

Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class

As drivers continue to downsize their rides, the line between car and SUV is becoming more blurred. In the luxury market, the latest, and potentially greatest, example is the recently revealed 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class compact crossover SUV, which will make its public debut at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt next month before arriving at Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the fall of 2014.

About five inches shorter and three inches narrower than the current Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, the all-new GLA-Class will be the fifth SUV in the brand’s lineup, designed to take on vehicles like the Range Rover Evoque and BMW X1. With a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, class-leading aerodynamics and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class will be highly maneuverable and efficient in urban settings, producing 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The compact model will also be Mercedes-Benz’s first SUV offered with the next-generation 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, ensuring stability during inclement weather.

“Luxury buyers are becoming more and more willing to opt for a smaller model with better fuel economy, as long as it still has the style, performance and amenities they’ve become accustomed to in their larger rides,” said James Buckley, general manager of Smith Motor Sales, a Mercedes-Benz dealership based in Haverhill, Mass. “The Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class blends all of those characteristics perfectly with its efficient-yet-responsive engine, its well-appointed cabin and its flowing exterior design, which belongs in a class of its own.”

With a low roofline, a high beltline, flared fenders and a variety of contoured surfaces, Mercedes-Benz’s GLA-Class sports a modern and aggressive design while maintaining the sophistication of the German luxury brand. Inside the cockpit, the GLA-Class features a large, iPad-like display and five round air vents on its sweeping dashboard, which is available in aluminum or satin-finished wood trim.

The GLA-Class pulls much of its look and feel from another new compact model, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class four-door coupe, which goes on sale next month. Priced starting at $30,825, the CLA-Class will share the same 2.0-liter engine and front- or all-wheel-drive MFA platform as the GLA-Class, as well as a similar exterior and interior.

“The GLA-Class and CLA-Class should attract a lot of first-time luxury buyers to the brand with their city-friendly designs and affordable pricing,” noted Buckley. “At the same time, many longtime customers might consider downsizing because both vehicles offer many of the same amenities found in more expensive Mercedes-Benz models.”

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet Roll Out to Dealerships

Mercedes-Benz E-Class cabriolet

Typically, a vehicle’s mid-cycle refresh will involve relatively minor upgrades, but in an effort to gain an edge in the competitive midsize luxury-car segment, Mercedes-Benz has seemingly spared no expense with its revamped 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Following the arrival of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan and Wagon in May, the new Coupe and Cabriolet models are currently rolling out to dealerships with more aggressive styling, refined interiors and innovative new technology.

Donning a heavily revised front fascia, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet both receive a single-rib grille that is flanked by new single-unit headlamps with LED technology in the main beams and daytime running lights. Underneath, larger air intakes give the models a bolder look that is echoed in the rear by newly sculpted fenders and sleeker wraparound LED taillights.

“The 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet both have a distinctly athletic appearance, but the styling remains just as sophisticated as it has always been,” said James Buckley, general manager of Smith Motor Sales, a Haverhill, Massachusetts Mercedes-Benz dealership. “That modern-yet-classic mix is reflected on the inside, with a higher quality interior that now features some of the most advanced technology on the market.”

A three-tube instrument cluster and analog clock are the new centerpieces of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, while a redesigned center console flows smoothly from the dashboard to in between the front sport seats. Mercedes-Benz stylists accomplished that nearly continuous design by moving the gearshift to the steering column, a change that opens up additional storage space in the console as well.

The latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class also benefits from new technology that was developed for the next generation of the luxury brand’s flagship sedan: the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Debuting as an option throughout the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class lineup, DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist allows drivers to engage in radar-based cruise control that automatically maintains a safe distance from vehicles ahead at speeds of up to 120 mph. Meanwhile, the Steering Assist function uses a stereo camera to identify lane markings and keep the car centered in its lane, even through slight curves.

“Mercedes-Benz could have held off and debuted DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist in its flagship S-Class, but it is very serious about winning the luxury sales crown this year, and the 2014 E-Class could very well put the automaker over the top,” noted Buckley. “E-Class buyers are getting head-turning style, an impeccable interior design and industry-leading technology, and all that is backed by the superior performance that they’ve come to expect from Mercedes-Benz.”

New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Awarded Best Interior, Exterior

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

When considering a car, there are two general components that drivers pay attention to: the quality of the vehicle’s interior and exterior. It makes perfect sense – after all, the exterior is what onlookers see first when a car rolls around the corner, and the interior design has a major effect on the driver and passenger experience.

In impressive fashion, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class earned two first-place rankings at this year’s Automotive Brand Contest by the German Design Council – a Best of the Best award for the car’s exterior design, and Best of the Best honors for its interior design as well. The award ceremony will take place in September, coinciding with the start of the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

So what is it about the brand-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class that sets it apart from its competitors? To start, the exterior of these luxury sedans has maintained its classic style, while the interior employs some of the most refined materials and advanced technology to date.

One of those interior advancements includes the Burmester® surround sound system, which also received a special commendation from the Design Council. The Burmester® system provides three-dimensional surround sound for the car’s driver and passengers, the first included in a luxury sedan as standard.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will continue to be the flagship model for the German marque when it finally hits the market this summer. We look forward to introducing it to you at our Massachusetts Mercedes-Benz dealership once it does.

Mercedes-Benz Earns Record First Quarter Sales, but It Wants More

2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-ClassMercedes-Benz may have earned its best-ever first quarter of sales in the United States this year, but the automaker will not be satisfied until it is once again the global leader of luxury auto sales. In a push to achieve that goal, the company will be targeting younger buyers with an affordable and sporty new compact car called the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class.

Arriving at U.S. dealerships this September, the new CLA-Class will sport much of the sculpted, coupe-like styling of the larger Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class while incorporating some edgier design lines. With a starting price of less than $30,000, the CLA-Class will act as Mercedes-Benz’s new gateway vehicle, costing less than other high-volume offerings like the Audi A4 and BMW’s 1 Series and 3 Series. The luxury brand’s current gateway model, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, remained the lineup’s best-seller in March, moving 8,396 units for an increase of 32 percent year-over-year. That strong performance helped Mercedes-Benz post a record March overall, with its sales totaling 24,646 units across the lineup.

“The C-Class is and will continue to be extremely popular with new luxury buyers, but Mercedes-Benz has developed the smaller CLA-Class to appeal to even younger buyers that may never have considered the brand before,” said James Buckley, general manager of Smith Motor Sales, a Haverhill, Massachusetts Mercedes-Benz dealership. “The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class meets buyers’ growing preferences for smaller, more efficient rides, but it doesn’t sacrifice anything in the way of performance, style or technology to do so.”

Featuring a 208-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an industry-leading drag coefficient of just 0.23, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class will offer swift acceleration, while a sport-tuned suspension will allow for responsive handling. Inside, tech-savvy drivers will be pleased with the abundance of standard in-car connectivity, including a 5.8-inch center display screen, Bluetooth compatibility and the next-gen mbrace2 telematics system, which boasts features like concierge services and remote vehicle access via smartphones.

For car buyers who want the most performance possible in a smaller package, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a high-powered AMG version of the CLA-Class at the New York International Auto Show in late March. Housing the most powerful four-cylinder engine in production, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG will produce 355 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, enabling the car to sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. That impressive output will be matched on the outside by aggressive AMG body styling, including a large front apron, oversized air inlets, 18-inch alloy wheels and chrome-plated tailpipes.

“Most luxury automakers wouldn’t bother to create a high-performance version of their entry-level models because they aren’t really designed for performance to begin with,” noted Buckley. “The CLA45 AMG shows just how serious Mercedes-Benz is about bringing its signature engineering to a broader audience with the CLA-Class lineup.”
